The perfect Valentine's Day bouquet.

So if you've decided on Valentine's Day flowers this year for your loved one, you're in luck. Here, we'll share some tips on how to pick the best Valentine's Day flowers, as well as how to upgrade your gift.

Valentine's Day Flowers: Some Dos and Don’ts

The one thing some people might get wrong when it comes to Valentine's Day flowers is not ordering ahead. A common mistake is to think you have to order the day itself or the day before to make sure the flowers are fresh.

But the problem with this is the closer it gets to Valentine's Day, the busier the florists are. You might not get the best stock or even the best flowers such as red roses, as these tend to sell out fast.

Your best bet is to order early so you can give your lady love your preferred floral gift. But if for some reason, you weren't able to order early, at least try to buy your blooms in person. This way you can check for freshness and ensure the flowers will not droop the next day. Know where we are? Here is a link to our address where you can just click ‘directions’ and get to our shop.

Valentines Flowers: Explore Your Options

Giving a red rose or a dozen of them on Valentine's Day is traditional. Now, some people don't have a problem with that. And if you want to give your loved one a bouquet of red roses come February 14, then go for it.

But what about if you are in early stages of dating? You can then try something different.  You can find out what flowers your new date prefers beforehand. Or you can ask a few florists for their recommendations.

Of course, you should also do your part and help the florist come up with the perfect arrangement. Tell the florist what colors or fragrance your loved one likes. You can also describe your partner's personality so the florist can pick the best blooms to reflect that.

That said, here are some flowers you may want to consider for your Valentine’s Day bouquet.

Roses Are Red...

Or so the well-known poem goes. But everyone knows roses come in different colors. There's yellow, orange, purple, pink, and so on. And each color symbolizes something.

Now, if you've always given red roses on Valentine's Day and want to try something different, you can go for a mix of red and white roses. Red mixed with white means unity, which is a good message to convey to your partner, especially if you've been together for quite some time now.

White roses also represent ‘purity’ which, for a relationship that is only in it’s very early stages, can signify hope for a stronger unity to come, and a love that will grow.

Tulips, Lilies, and Orchids

One of the best things about tulips as Valentine Day flowers is their longevity. Even after they've been cut, they will continue to grow. And maintaining them isn't too hard, either.

Just keep them in a place where they'd get a lot of sunlight. Tulips aren't as in your face as red roses are. But if your loved one is someone who likes subtlety, they'll definitely appreciate your bouquet of tulips.

As for lilies and orchids, they're great to give to someone who favors the tropical style. If your sweetheart is a bit of a trendsetter, you can't go wrong with lilies or orchids. Of course, if you want a more balanced bouquet, you can go for a combination of white lilies or white orchids and red roses.

Sunflowers, Irises, and Carnations

Do the words 'bubbly' and 'bright' describe your loved one? If yes, then sunflowers are the perfect Valentine's Day flowers as they reflect those qualities well.

And while some would say sunflowers aren't romantic at all, they can be under the right circumstances. If your message of love is that of happiness, for example, then sunflowers are the ideal bunch to give to your valentine.

Now, if your partner is celebrating their birthday in February, you should consider a double-duty flower such as irises. Yellow and purple ones would make a great Valentine's Day and birthday present as yellow irises mean passion, while purple ones bring a message of wisdom and compliments.

As for carnations, they're popular on Mother's Day. But there's no rule that says you can't give carnations on Valentine's Day.

Peonies, Daisies, and Chrysanthemums

Peonies are just as popular as roses when it comes to romance. And this is why they're also used a lot in weddings.

Daisies, on the other hand, make the ideal gift for someone who values simplicity. They also make great Valentine's Day gifts to a friend or best friend.

Chrysanthemums or mums

If you're not too familiar with flower symbolism, the white chrysanthemum represents perfection. And what better way to tell your partner that they’re perfect in every way?

There are also other colors to choose from if you don't want to give an all-white bouquet. Red mums represent desire, while yellow ones mean a secret admirer.
